The tool shouldmatch the task.

I built PrivateTools after more than a decade working in CG because too many five-minute jobs still required a large installation—or an upload I did not want to make.

Why it exists

Built from missing buttons.

Professional applications can be extraordinarily capable and still miss the one small operation I need at that moment. Their size and complexity make sense for a full production workflow; they make less sense when the entire job is cutting one clip, checking one sequence, or changing one file format.

Cloud tools remove the installation, but replace it with another compromise: the source file has to leave my computer. For client work, unreleased images, or simply files I prefer to control, that can be the wrong trade.

PrivateTools grew from those two frustrations. Each application begins with a recurring task and asks how little interface, waiting, and data movement are actually necessary to finish it.

The operating principle

The site and its processing runtimes are downloaded like any web application. The selected source files are then read, processed, and exported inside your browser; they are not sent to PrivateTools for rendering or conversion.

Sequence review

Image Sequence Player

I used to open a full compositing application just to check a render sequence. This tool exists so that job can begin with selecting the frames and pressing Play.

Standard image sequences can often begin playing as soon as the browser has decoded enough frames. EXR is heavier and needs buffering, but it can still be reviewed directly in the browser. Playback can reach 60 FPS when the sequence, cache, browser, and device allow it.

The player also has fullscreen review, FPS controls, mouse-wheel zoom, pan and scale reset, range selection, and local MP4, WebM, or GIF export.

Video editing

trimy

trimy began as a fast way to cut a video. It has grown into a timeline editor while keeping the original goal: make small media jobs feel small.

When streams and edit boundaries are compatible, trimy can copy encoded video instead of rendering every frame again. For mixed sequences, it can preserve compatible segments and encode only mismatched clips, audio, or generated timeline gaps when that path is available.

Formats that a browser cannot play normally can use extracted frame previews for scrubbing and basic decisions. trimy also supports crop, format conversion, separate video and audio tracks, and attach or detach audio. A full nonlinear editor is still the right choice for complex finishing; trimy is for getting a focused job done quickly.

Audio workflow

Audio Editor

The name is intentionally literal: select the part you need, arrange the clips, and export the result without learning a larger audio application.

The editor can trim one file, reorder and join multiple clips, or extract the audio track from a video file. The waveform and range controls are designed around quick, precise changes.

Depending on the source and browser capabilities, the result can stay in its original format or be converted to MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, or FLAC.

Format conversion

Universal Converter

A five-minute format change should not require a large install or a separate upload service for every media type.

The converter handles images, audio, and video in one workspace. Image batches can be resized and given shared quality settings; audio and video use the same local media engines as the dedicated editors.

It includes less common jobs such as WebP to GIF and HEIC to PNG alongside everyday conversions. Format coverage is intentionally expanded only when the browser path can produce a result worth trusting.

Everyday image work

Image Editor

This is not an attempt to rebuild a complete photo application. It is the shortest workflow I could make for everyday image edits.

Paste an image from the clipboard, add a caption area, place an arrow, draw a freehand line, crop or resize, and copy the finished PNG back to the clipboard when the browser supports those clipboard APIs.

The editor can also assemble a quick collage, add custom borders and text layers, and export PNG, JPEG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP, or HEIC.

Vector assets

SVG Library

Finding a vector is only half the task. I wanted the same page to handle inspection, customization, and the handoff into design or code.

The library brings together curated icons, logos, maps, flags, illustrations, and symbols. Assets can be previewed and recolored before they leave the page.

Download the customized result as SVG or PNG, or copy the current markup as raw SVG, JSX, or a React component.

Model inspection

3D Viewer

Sometimes I only need to open a model, orbit around it, and confirm that the geometry, materials, or animation arrived intact.

The viewer opens GLB, GLTF, FBX, OBJ, and STL files locally. GLTF projects can include their related texture and binary files in the same selection.

Orbit, pan, zoom, enable HDR studio lighting or auto-rotation, play embedded animation clips, and inspect mesh, triangle, and vertex statistics.
